We stock what families ask for, not what's easy to store. Volunteers greet you by name, help you shop, and send you home with a recipe for whatever's in season.

Every plot is tended by a Northside family. What they don't take home goes straight to the pantry shelves, usually the same morning.

Your first visit
Getting groceries takes about 20 minutes.
- Walk in any day we're open. No appointment and no paperwork the first time. Bring a bag if you have one.
- Tell us your household size. A volunteer checks you in. That's the only question we ask.
- Shop the shelves. Choose your own produce, dairy, bread, and pantry staples.

A different kind of pantry
What does it take to feed a whole family?
Groceries are the start. Families also need time together at the table, someone to ask about school, and a place where a grandfather can teach the recipes he grew up with. That's what we're really building on Alder Street.

Garden program
Kids who grow it, eat it.
Every Saturday from April to October, kids plant, weed, and harvest their own bed. At the end of the morning they cook what they picked with a volunteer chef.

Volunteer crews
340 neighbors. One Saturday at a time.
Crews sort donations, stock shelves, and run check-in. Most people start with one shift and never really leave.

Thursday dinner
Two hundred plates, one long table.
Volunteers cook from scratch with whatever the garden and the pantry have that week. Kids eat first. Seconds are expected. Nobody checks who's a guest.

Hillcrest used to run a canned-food drive every November. Now members sponsor a pantry shelf all year and cook one Thursday dinner a month.
Our people didn't want to drop off cans. They wanted to know the families. Common Table made that possible.
